Frequently asked questions

How can I access the Booking Module?

Our central contract with NHS England covers COVID-19 and flu vaccination bookings. All practices will be able to use the Booking Module for these, as well as other use cases, until June 2023 when our contract ends. Your practice will need to cover SMS costs unless these are covered by another party, for example your Federation or Integrated Care Board (ICB).

How do I use Self-Book?

When composing a new message to an individual patient, you will now be able to add a booking link using the new Self-Book button. This will enable an individual patient to book an appointment. Further instructions can be found in our support article.

How do I use Batch Self-Book?

Can I still use accuBook for COVID-19 vaccination clinics?

accuBook is our web-based booking solution for managing COVID-19 vaccination programmes. It is a separate system that does not integrate with EMIS or SystmOne appointment books. Primary care organisations can continue to use accuBook for their autumn vaccination programmes as part of our contract with NHS England. COVID-19 vaccination clinics can also be managed through the new Booking Module. Find out more about accuBook.

What is the difference between accuBook and Self-Book/Batch Self-Book?

accuBook is a web-based solution for managing COVID-19 vaccination clinics. We developed it in response to the vital need for mass vaccination programmes during the pandemic. It doesn’t integrate with EMIS or SystmOne appointment books (or other Accurx products). Self-Book (and Batch Self-Book) as part of the Booking Module, can integrate with EMIS and SystmOne appointment books, and can be used to invite patients for any appointment type. They will both be really powerful features that will help to save staff time and provide easier access to care for patients.

Can I book COVID-19 and flu vaccinations together?

If you’re planning combined clinics for both COVID-19 and flu vaccinations, you can edit the message in accuBook or Batch Self-Book (whichever you would prefer to use) to explain to your patients that the flu vaccination will also be offered at the same time. You can extend the appointment slot to allow time to complete both vaccinations.

Can I specify what appointments patients can book into?

Yes! Patients can only book into the appointments you have chosen. When setting up your self-book invite, you can choose what slot type you’d like to invite a patient, or cohort of patients, to book into. For example, you can create a new slot type for ‘Joint COVID-19 and flu vaccination’, and invited patients will only be able to book into these specified appointment slots.
