Learning from your community: A guide to Ambassador sessions

There’s now an easy way for you to connect with peers across the country who’ve already transitioned to a digital-first model of care.

Accurx Ambassadors are GPs, practice managers and team members from across the country who’ve already made the switch to total triage. Having been through the transition themselves, they understand the challenges and the rewards. Their role is to act as a guide – offering honest insights, practical tips, and reassurance that total triage really can work in your setting.

“We’ve been running total triage for over two years now and we could never see ourselves going back. We explain our journey – from how we planned the change, to the pitfalls, and what we’d do differently if we did it all again.”
Shalil & Rebecca, Queenswood Medical Practice, North Central London ICB

Switching to total triage can feel daunting, and nothing beats learning from a peer who’s been there before. An Ambassador training session gives you:

  • Real-world experience – with practical tips and lessons from a practice that’s been through the change, from workflow mapping to getting your team and patients on board.
  • Tailored advice – select an Ambassador matched with your practice size, ICB or role preferences
  • Peer reassurance honest conversations on everything from setting patient expectations and redesigning appointment books, to managing telephone and walk-in demand alongside online requests.

As one practice manager put it:

“Hearing about patient and staff feedback and the quick wins helped our practice consider some points we hadn’t thought of.”
“Our elderly and deprived population showed us that triage can work for pretty much anyone. I’d love to share our journey and help you get the best start in implementing this for your practice.”
Dr
Zara Gandon, Mayfield Surgery, Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent ICB

What to expect

Sessions are free and easy to book. Once you fill out the form, you’ll be able to choose an Ambassador who best matches your context – whether that’s by ICB, practice size, EMR, or role. You can then decide between a virtual session or an in-person visit.

If you opt for an in-person session, your Ambassador will be in touch by email to arrange a visit to their practice. Many practices use this as a shadowing opportunity for their wider team to see how triage works in real life.

For virtual sessions, you can simply pick a date and time that works for you with your recommended (or any other) Ambassador. On the call, you can expect to hear the Ambassador’s story, learn how they mapped their workflows, engaged staff and patients, and have plenty of time to ask your own questions – whether that’s about adapting to the GP contract, redesigning your appointment book, or something else entirely. You’ll leave with clear, practical ideas to try in your own practice.

“It has transformed patient access for us – the right patients with the right clinicians in the right timeframe. Even our change-resistant, high proportion elderly population have taken to it brilliantly.”
Dr
Nat Martin, Park Surgery, Humber & North Yorkshire ICB

A nationwide network

With Ambassadors based across England – from Manchester to London, Staffordshire to Somerset – there’s bound to be someone local to you who understands your patch. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your existing model, an Ambassador can help you take the next step with confidence.

“Having implemented total triage (and still learning!) for over 5 years, our session is focused on giving you a flavour of our journey – and how you could do similar – as well as an open, honest appraisal of what works and what doesn’t.”

Osman Bhatti, St Andrews Health Centre, North East London ICB
